Affordable Lightweight Backpacking Tent

Clostnature Lightweight Backpacking Tent

Santa brought me a new backpacking tent this year for Christmas.

It’s smaller, more compact, and much lighter than the tent I’ve been rocking with for the last year or so.

After breaking it out and taking it on its first official trip to test it, I felt I needed to write a review about it.

So here it is.

If you’re looking for a new backpacking tent, this is a good place for you to start.

Below I’ll be going over some basic info about my new Clostnature Tent and talking about my experience with it so far!

Clostnature 2-Person Tent: General Overview

The Clostnature 2-person tent is a lightweight, easy to set up tent, that is designed specifically for backpacking or long hiking trips.

It is made from a polyester waterproof fabric and will keep you dry and safe even in inclement weather.

(Check out our post on camping in the rain here.)

It comes with a rain fly and right off the bat I love that it extends out past the tent a ways down to the ground. You want rain to run away from your tent, instead of down at its base, so this is great.

Quick dimension stats—it weighs 5.3 pounds (4.52 minimum trail weight without rain fly and pack) and is only 17 inches by 6 inches when packed. Its compact size means you can fit it a variety of places. On my first trip with it, I strapped it to my backpack and it fit nicely.

It is good for all seasons, and has a breathable mesh lining to keep out bugs.

This mesh also allows you to look up at the stars.

What I Like (Thumbs Up)

  • Easy to Set Up
    • Complete set up only took about 5-minutes from start to finish. All you have to do is lay out the tent, put in your two cross support poles, clip the pole clips into place, connect the tie at the top, and stake it into the ground. Easy peasy.
  • Opens On Both Sides
    • There are zippered openings on both sides of the tent, meaning you can enter and exit easily from either side. This is great for people who are co-sleeping, as you can leave the tent without waking up your camping partner.
  • Compact Size
    • This tent takes up very little space, especially compared to some of the other brands on the market. Experienced backpackers know your experience relies heavily on keeping your pack light. This tent gives you a safe shelter to sleep in without weighing you down.
  • Affordable Without Compromising Quality
    • Nobody wants to break the bank on camping gear, but you also don’t want to cheap out and end up with a tent that won’t last over time. This is a great option if you are looking for backpacking tents under $100.
  • Cozy but Spacious
    • Backpacking involves hauling a large amount of gear along with you, and I appreciate that this tent has enough room for me to sleep while still having room for my things as well. Since I am normally in my tent alone, it’s great to have the extra space to lay out my things.

What I Don’t Like (Thumbs Down)

There aren’t very many things that I dislike about this tent. There are a few, however, and it’s only a fair review if I cover the cons as well as the pros.

So, here we go!

  • Basic Setup, No Frills
    • If you’re looking for a tent with tons of pockets or extra accessories this is not the tent for you. There is one small mesh pocket in the corner, and a clip up top to hang a light from, but other than that it is just a tent. (This is expected, seeing as it is a ‘lightweight’ tent)
  • Not Very Tall
    • I stand pretty much right at 6 feet tall, and there is no way I will ever be able to stand up straight in this tent. I am, however, able to shuffle around on my knees comfortably without hitting my head. Not being able to stand up is common problem with most tents, I know this, but I’m putting it on the con list anyway.
  • Difficult to Pack Up
    • Maybe it’s because we were camping in the cold, or maybe it’s because I was tired, but I did have an annoyingly hard time getting the tent rolled back up as we were leaving our site in the morning. The tent itself wasn’t too difficult to roll, but I did struggle a bit with the rain fly. I’ll have to experiment with how best to roll it up so I know for next time.
  • Factory Smells
    • You may want to air your tent out for a little after first opening it. There is a faint new-from-the-factory smell that I experienced when I first set it up, but the it went away after a few minutes outside.

Final Thoughts

After only one trip out with this tent, I would give it a solid 8/10.

A lot of my critiques are probably just a part of me adjusting to a new way away from home, so take them with a grain of salt.

It is a nice tent, and it kept me dry in the mud and the rain.

I would recommend it to any of my friends.

  1. That actually looks spacious. My two man tent is big enough for just me. Recently, I’ve done more car camping and decided to get some new gear now that it doesn’t have to be on my back. I got a three man tent that I almost can stand up in. It feels like the Taj Mahal compared to my old tent! But hopefully I can dust off my backpacking tent again someday.

    1. My general rule for 2 person tents is the two people better be either dating or very comfortable with each other haha. For me a 2 person tent really means me and room for my gear 😂 I would love to be able to stand up in my tent! That would make getting dressed way easier than squirming around on the ground in awkward positions haha

      1. Lol… agreed. It is just enough for me and my gear. Standing up in my new tent feels crazy good. I also added a blow up mattress. I felt guilty about that at first, but after my first nights sleep, that guilt went away!

      2. Nothing wrong with a nice air mattress! Whatever helps you feel comfortable!
